HWIC company donates digital information screens to hospital

Have you spotted the new screens at the Royal Cornwall Hospital?

A Truro-based company has provided a way to help to get information to staff and patients more effectively.

Big Box Advertising has donated 20 digital information screens to the Royal Cornwall Hospital to display important and useful messages.

The screens, which have been installed by Ian Mitchell of Gylly Computer Services of Redruth, are located in a growing number of departments across the site, from the Pre-Operative Assessment Unit and Outpatients to the coffee shop (pictured above) in the main Trelawney reception area.

The screens, which started being rolled out earlier this year and are supported by local business advertising, are already making a positive difference to those visiting or working at the hospital.

Plans are already being made to extend the digital screens to RCHT’s two other sites at West Cornwall in Penzance and St Michael’s in Hayle later this year.

‘There are so many different departments and initiatives happening at the Royal Cornwall Hospital that these screens are really helping to get important messages to patients and visitors,’ said Mike Bee, co-founder and Director of Big Box Advertising. ‘They are also a great way for staff to learn what is happening around the hospital – such as choir practices – and also for the Royal Cornwall Hospital Charity to inform everyone of forthcoming events in and around the site.’

Businesses from around the county are being invited to support the initiative by buying 12 months of space on the screens to advertise their services. This represents a good opportunity for exposure as the Royal Cornwall Hospital serves a population of 430,000, a figure that can increase significantly with visitors during the busiest times of the year. In addition to this, the Royal Cornwall Hospital Trust employs 5,000 staff. Already advertisers have received a positive response from their onscreen adverts so much so that there is limited space available.

‘It is a significant footfall,’ says Mike. ‘And businesses are able to change their artwork on the screens throughout the year at no extra cost.’
