Cornwall Innovation Centre companies join forces to advance green electrochemistry testing solutions

Oxford nanoSystems (ONS) and HiTPower, two companies based within Tremough Innovation Centre, have announced a new partnership to develop a next generation of electrochemical test stations.

The collaboration will see the two businesses combine their expertise to design, manufacture and bring to market high-performance testing systems tailored for water electrolysis and emerging electrochemical technologies. The move comes as global demand for green hydrogen and the use of electrochemistry to decarbonise the energy system continues to grow, increasing the need for accurate, scalable and reliable testing infrastructure.

By working together, ONS will bring its specialist knowledge in electrochemistry and proprietary test station design, while HiTPower will contribute its advanced control system software and manufacturing capabilities. The result is a fully integrated solution designed to support innovation and scale within the clean energy sector.

Professor David Hodgson, Executive Chairman at Oxford nanoSystems, said: “As the transition to clean energy accelerates, the electrochemical sector needs infrastructure that can deliver both precision and scale. This partnership brings together complementary strengths to create a robust, future-facing solution, while ensuring customers benefit from long-term support and reliability.”

On the partnership, Matt Harrington, Head of Cornwall Innovation Centres, said: “This is a strong example of the kind of collaboration we aim to foster across our centres. Bringing together two innovative businesses to develop solutions for the clean energy sector highlights both the strength of the ecosystem here in Cornwall and its growing role in supporting global industry challenges.”

Dr Mohammad Abusara, CEO at HiTPower, added: “By combining expertise in electrochemistry with capabilities in control systems and manufacturing, we are developing a turnkey solution that meets the evolving needs of the global market.”

The joint rollout of the new electrochemical test stations is now underway.
