Green Power Solutions, based at Pool Innovation Centre, has been awarded an 18-month contract for a co-funded project with the European Space Agency’s Business Applications and Space Solutions (BASS) program.
The project, Smart Ops, will examine how machine learning and satellite positioning data can help operations teams manage off-grid infrastructure more effectively. Smart Ops will seek to identify maintenance needs earlier, prioritise equipment issues and, when a site visit is required, help dispatch the nearest suitably qualified engineer.
Green Power Solutions developed its remote asset-monitoring platform, TrackSyte®, to give operators greater visibility of their assets’ condition, energy performance and location. The platform helps customers work by exception rather than assumption, reducing unnecessary site visits and supporting the reliable operation of dispersed infrastructure.
On the project, Sam Taylor, CEO at Green Power Solutions, said: “Securing this contract with the European Space Agency reflects the potential of the technology we have developed through TrackSyte, from right here in Cornwall.
This project allows us to explore how satellite technology can build on the information operators already have about their remote assets. It is an exciting milestone for Green Power Solutions as we help clients adopt more sustainable and practical ways to monitor off-grid infrastructure.
Ultimately, it is about giving customers the confidence to send engineers out only when they are genuinely needed, to save time on the road, reduce unnecessary site visits and help to keep vital assets operational.”
The 18-month project is now underway, with Green Power Solutions using the findings to inform the continued development of TrackSyte®.
Matt Harrington, Head of Cornwall Innovation Centres, added: “By building on its expertise, Green Power Solutions is on the way to tackling real operational challenges by developing technology that has the potential to make a meaningful difference for so many businesses. It’s brilliant to see a Cornwall-based company working on a project with this level of ambition, to demonstrate the talent and scale of technical expertise that can come from the county.”
