Cornwall-based health tech company, Ultramed, celebrates growth and Australian launch

A Cornwall-headquartered health tech company is marking a new phase of international growth with the launch of an Australian subsidiary.

Ultramed, a B Corp-certified digital health business based at Tremough Innovation Centre, specialises in developing and hosting online pre‑operative and pre‑procedure assessments that patients complete themselves at home. The technology has now supported more than 800,000 patients across 29 NHS trusts and health boards in England and Scotland, with new services recently launched at Cork University Hospital in Ireland.

To support its expansion into the Southern Hemisphere, Ultramed has created an Australian subsidiary, Ultraprep PTY, giving hospitals and patients access to the company’s MyPreOp and wider Ultra Prep suite through a dedicated Australian-facing platform.

Paul Upton, Co-founder of Ultramed, said: “The launch of Ultraprep in Australia is a huge milestone for us and shows just how far a Cornwallfounded company can go. Designed to let patients complete their preoperative assessment remotely, and securely share information with clinical teams, the cloudhosted platforms help reduce unnecessary appointments and lastminute cancellations, free up clinical time and improve the overall patient experience in both publicly funded and independent hospitals.”

Matt Harrington, Head of Cornwall Innovation Centres, added: “Ultramed is a brilliant example of what happens when you combine mission-driven leadership and flexible working. We’re proud that Ultramed has chosen to keep its headquarters here at Tremough Innovation Centre while building its international footprint. Their story shows how high-growth digital businesses can leverage Cornwall’s strengths to scale globally.”

Ultramed’s B Corp status and the King’s Award for Enterprise reflect a clear commitment to people as well as profit, from introducing a nine‑day working fortnight on full pay to investing in its leaders. Chief Operations Officer Natalys Willcox recently achieved a distinction in her MBA from the University of Warwick, part‑funded by Ultramed, with research focused on building trust in virtual teams to support the company’s best practice across its remote workforce.
